This bill authorizes PUC to consider differential energy burden and other inequities of affordability in rates.
Personal Choice and Responsibility
This is social justice gone amuck. Any time inequities are defined, by its action it creates other inequities and promotes a class system. Defining “environmental justice” as a protection against making poor personal choices is not a responsibility of government and it moves society towards socialism. Identifying “environmental justice communities” is racist giving priorities to one group of people over another in the same situation. To be in compliance with the Constitution, laws need to be applied equally to all peoples.
Government must stop picking winners and losers. Identifies reasons for rate assistance to be environmental justice – protection from environmental and health hazards and meaningful public participation in decisions that affect the environment in which people live, work, learn, practice spirituality and play; and environmental justice communities of color, communities experiencing lower incomes, tribal communities, rural communities, frontier communities, coastal communities and other communities traditionally underrepresented in public processes, including but not limited to seniors, youth and persons with disabilities. Minorities are represented in the majority of Oregon statutes, so who is really underrepresented?
