DESCRIPTION:Rep. Gomberg (D\, HD10) will be having a Town Hall with Sen. Me
 rkely (D\, Oregon Senate) on Friday\, Aug 2 at the Hatfield Center starti
 ng at 10 am.\n\nFind out about about IP 17 – a proposal to tax sales in 
 larger Oregon businesses to fund an annual payment of $750 to every Oregon
 ian. Proponents of this initiative say the universal basic income plan wou
 ld reduce child poverty by about 26%. But the payments would go to every O
 regonian and not just those of lower incomes. Increasingly there is eviden
 ce that the measure would increase prices\, drive inflation\, and reduce r
 evenue needed for schools\, health care\, and wildfire response.\n\nThe 3%
  gross receipts tax would apply to all sales by firms grossing over $25 mi
 llion annually. Remember that the sales tax we are familiar with in Washin
 gton and California only applies to the final retail sale of products\, an
 d not to purchases of wholesale products\, materials or services.\n\nBe su
