SB 683 Paid Postage for Returned Ballots

VOTE:NO
Died in Committee

This bill pays postage for ballots returned by mail

Personal Choice and Responsibility
Individuals should pay the cost of mailing their ballot in. There are drop boxes available if voters do not want to pay the postage cost.

Fiscal Responsibility
Adds the expense of postage to the state's financial obligations.

Cost estimates are likely to range from $200,000 to $500,000 General Fund in the 2017-19 biennium due to the fact that the measure would only be in effect for the last six months of the biennium. However, the SOS Elections Division estimates that the cost could increase to somewhere between $1.3 to $2.6 million General Fund in the 2019-21 biennium, depending on whether one-half or all ballots are returned by mail.
