HB 2727 Prohibits former legislators from lobbying for pay for one year

02/09/2025

The Act does not allow former legislators to be hired by certain groups to support policies. The Act applies to former legislators for one year after they leave office. Expands restrictions on post-legislative service activities to prohibit receiving money or other consideration for advocacy on behalf of a public or private entity for changes in policy or funding for public or private sector programs or entities.

This bill strengthens the integrity of our legislative process by expanding the limits on post-legislative advocacy, lobbying by former legislators. Currently, former legislators cannot be paid to lobby for a year after they leave office for a private organization such as Home Builders Association, Farm Bureau, etc. However, nothing stops them from leaving office and immediately going to work for the state or another public entity and returning the next day to lobby for public, tax payer programs
