SB 810 Relating to Health Savings Accounts

VOTE: NO – Public Hearing
Status (overview) of bill:https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2017R1/Measures/Overview/SB810

This bill allows Oregon tax payers to put away money specifically for health related expenses thereby reducing their personal state and federal income tax. Deductions that exceed monetary limits for federal income tax may be carried over to succeeding tax years. Interest on money set aside by tax payers will be used for administrative costs associated with OHSA. Effective January 1, 2018

Personal Choice and Responsibility
Allows each tax payer to set aside money without a tax burden to help with healthcare costs, however the state treasury manages all monies which is a bad idea as what is to stop them from raiding the fund, as such has been done in  the past?

Limited Government
This will allow the state to enter another aspect of your life that could be provided by private entities.

Free Markets
This should be an opportunity for free market entities to provide a service instead of the government stepping in.
