Prohibits a person from raising octopus for the purpose of human consumption or participating in the sale or offer for sale of octopus that was raised for human consumption.
Our coastal restaurants have a good seafood reputation. So requiring them to import
octopus is nonsense. The coastal counties could become an octopus exporter, which
would help their economy. That isn’t a choice for the legislature to governor a
suppression of economic growth when there is no safety issue involved.
Private landowners should have the freedom to engage in lawful farming activities. This bill could set a harmful precedent for banning other forms of aquaculture or animal husbandry, limiting future opportunities for Oregon’s seafood industry. Oregon farmers and ranchers rely on a stable regulatory environment that supports innovation and diversification, not one that arbitrarily prohibits legal agricultural practices.
