This bill prohibits police officers commissioned by public university from carrying firearms as police officers outside of police headquarters if public university is located in city with population exceeding 150,000.
Limited Government
Forces Oregon public university police officers to carry out duties unarmed. So if they are a private citizen they can be armed on campus for self defense, but if acting as a campus police officer they cannot be armed for defense of students.
Local Control
Leaves no room for universities to decide for themselves whether to use armed campus police officers. Mandates that they be unarmed in Portland, Salem and Eugene, which is where most of the offenses occur.
It is beyond reason why anyone would be charged with protecting the citizens anywhere in this state without the customary and proper tools, of which a gun is first on the list.
Drop this as it’s not safe. Congress has security, governor’s got security, schools need security and guns on guards is how to secure the places in question. Look at the facts of where the issues have mostly been and by some pretty awful thinking people. Theory of a gun free zone is crazy. The people causing this gun issue has been protected by guns all their lives. Military, family, friends and themselves carry guns. This country was founded on guns for protection and safety and the right to hunt for food. Remember our rights in the Constitution and to bare arms. I as a father, husband, grandpa and person have a right to protect myself , my family and my neighbors. Leave our protection alone as the police, Sheriff, military and private services can’t be in the outer most areas quick enough to protect and secure from theives, mobs, gangs, animals or just plain mayhem. My vote is quit going after our guns.
As one President said we need to have guns to protect us from our own government.

And why is it that America has never been invaded? Because the world knows we all have guns! Let’s keep it that way.
Disarming police officers at public universities puts everyone there at risk. Gun-free zones are welcome signs to criminals of all kinds.
