The Act makes changes to the Oregon Death With Dignity Act.

It changes “attending physician” to “prescribing provider” to eliminate the physician-patient relationship. It also reduces the protection of the waiting period from 15 days to 2 days. It seems like these changes are to accommodate out-of-state people coming here to die.

It authorizes hospice programs to end the life of patients provided it is in their published policy.

SB 1003 removes some of the safeguards that Measure 13 was passed on in 1994. The 15 day waiting period was to protect patients from making a hasty decision.
