This bill directs Department of Education to do a minimum assessment of Oregon students and request a waiver of federal standards of state assessment requirements to be a shortened assessment, a sampling model of assessments or any other strategy.

Limited Government
This bill lacks commitment for what to expect in assessment standards. To go from over testing to “the minimum extent practicable” is another open-end disaster for our students. This bill is the results of passing SB 744, which got rid of graduation requirements. This appears to be a coverup so they are not held accountable for the passage of that bill, when national assessments show the decline in reading, writing, and math skills. An exception to national assessment standards will leave the state, teachers and parents not knowing how Oregon education stacks up nationally.
