SB 744 Suspends Education Standards

SB 744 VOTE: NO
Signed into Law by Gov Brown on 07/14/21
Status (overview) of bill: https://olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2021R1/Measures/Overview/SB744

This bill suspends the requirement of showing proficiency in Essential Learning Skills as a condition of earning a diploma during 2021-2022 or 2022-2023 school year. Directs Department of Education to review state requirements for high school diploma with the intent to permanently do away with standards to cover up the damage school closures has had.

Personal Choice and Responsibility
Violates student’s rights to quality education. Suspending requirements steals another class of the education they deserve. By wanting to make this bill permanent is to dumb down all students to the level of those that found virtual schooling unproductive.

Fiscal Responsibility
Education has egg on their face for not standing up to teacher unions and cheating students out of a quality education that taxpayers paid for. Suspending requirements is not responsible.

Limited Government
State law currently establishes only a portion of the requirements for a high school diploma (math and English language arts credits). The remaining credit requirements, along with additional requirements such as demonstrated proficiency in nine essential skills, education plans, and education profiles, are codified in Oregon Administrative Rule 581-022-2000. SB 744A requires the Department of Education to review all high school graduation requirements and diploma options. Suspends essential learning skills requirements for two school years, until the Department’s report is submitted to the legislature. The measure permanently prevents the State Board of Education from requiring students who have completed their required coursework to demonstrate proficiency in any other skill or academic content area beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.

Remember this folks, the next time a school bond levy comes up – you’re paying property tax to support schools that no longer teach life skills. Instead, they teach the kids to hate themselves, judge people strictly by the color of their skin, transgender is the way, and have sex with anyone and everyone. Sodom and Gamorrah is right here in front of us.
