Undoes wildfire protection provisions adopted in Senate Bill 762 (2021). Declares an emergency, effective July 1, 2025.
Provides that the State Board of Forestry establish criteria by which the forestland-urban interface must be identified and classified. The criteria must recognize differences across the state in fire hazard, fire risk and structural characteristics within the forestland-urban interface. The criteria must include not less than three and not more than five classes of forestland-urban interfaces while encouraging property owners to minimize and mitigate fire risk.
The forester may enter into a cooperative agreement with the “Governing body,” which means the board of county commissioners or county court of a county, as the case may be.
Senate Minority Leader Daniel Bonham (R Hood River) said he and Senator Noah Robinson (R-Cave Junction) introduced SB 678 to put an end to this broken system once and for all. Oregonians deserve real solutions, not bureaucratic mismanagement.
