SB 1546A – requires AI software designers to tell users that the users are talking to software, not a human. Tells them they must try to prevent users from getting output that causes suicidal feelings or thoughts. AI is getting so sophisticated it is difficult to tell the difference.

PASSED SENATE – CONTACT HOUSE LEGISLATORS

It provides some child access safety and clear notices regarding A I companions (chatbots or companion platforms) which simulate ongoing human-like relationships/emotional interactions, etc. For users believed to be minors, it has frequent breaks, bans on sexually explicit content and prohibitions on manipulative tactics, such as rewards or emotional manipulation to keep users engaged longer.

HOUSE ADDED AMENDMENT – Modifies elements required to be included in AI companion protocol.
